East Indian Nagas (Merfolk)
Leading up the release of the Black Faery Anthos (the first of which is slated for a Spring release), we’ll be posting intel about Fae-ish/Fantasical creatures of color you probably aren’t familiar with. We might first post about them in the BSFS Black Fae group for the scribes, but you can check back here for updates and excerpts, as we plan to cover them all so folks they’re all compiled in at least one spot *_^ If you have questions/updates for this post [you will be credited] submit here.
The current installment featuring in the Black Faery group comments is: The Nagas
Hailing from the East [see Wiki] they’re usually not portrayed as being of good intent, but there has been lore associated with their good, as well as often-neutral deeds. There’s more collected info about various ‘Fae/Fantastical Creatures’ in the anthos. Glowing thx to C’BS Alife Allah (not among us in the group yet, sadly— He stays on the grind) for his contributions to that end.

Got a Nagas story for the antho?
The antho is interested in any highly fantastical works for POC (Afrikan rooted, Asian/East Indian, and so forth). In the interested of filling in the gap of People of color in fantasy and with interest to avoid passive racism that has hailed from the fantasy lore of old, all-POC casts for these anthos are requests, in interest of resetting a balance. Strive for innuendo and the storytelling magik of subtlety when communicating adult themes. The works in these tomes are meant to be consumable by both the adult and YA audience (seems like all that’s out there is geared toward extreme-adult focus these days… That’s why that consideration has been requested *_^).
Contact: purplemag at gmail.com for more intel or visit for full guidelines here.
Antho Editor’s note:
Submissions are ongoing as there will be more than one anthology. If accepted, after your work publishes in the antho you’re selected for, you can send them to other publishers for additional visibility <3 Purple mag does accept reprints, so long as it’s agreed to according to the rights you’ve given to previous editors. Communication is crucial here.
Please welcome the Chief Heartlighter of Plantfolk, Inspired Sis, to Otherbox
She is a whisperer of trees, sprinkling stardust over rainbow pigments, infusing canvas with meta-code for heart waking.
She bedazzles chlorophyllic-form arranged in scrumptious green bouquets on plates, and kisses the sunbeam-swollen leaf.
It’s said the Motherland fae watch over her, and leave anonymous gifts for her keep. Only she can confirm that, of course. We’re just glad she’s among us <3
Please welcome the founding root of Trust your hustle/Come Bien Books to Otherbox.
His brush repaints the world, acknowledging its flaws, rejoicing in vision that sees freedom as birthright.
His lead rebukes destruction. It beautifies the page. Fills the heart where others mock its hallowed purpose (having forgotten what it feels like).
And we are glad for the gifts of his innerspace, as he blesses the Otherbox with the splendor of his OtherAether. We give you, the formidable heartlight of Robert Trujillo (some of you know him as Tres).

(Unfortunately delayed)Am I Not Human: Wilt Petaled Blooms via UU
To eat from your cupboards and leave nothing
To salt your lands and poison the sea
To twist your view of spirituality
so as to alter your recognition of Divinity
These are not acts come from humanity
but hollow-conscienced seeds of depravity
grown into mind-clouding grains arranged
in ciphered dining options
upon the plates of the unwitting
Blooms not fit for consumption
strewn in salads of the genetically modified,
carefully coiffed tortured beasts and their clones.
Seeds making for themselves a hollow home,
when grown and consumed.
Stealing logic, choking air from the heart.
Making the silblings of the tormented forget,
that they’re related, and probably next;
if these wilted petals continue to decorate world display
masquerading as ‘premium offering’
so few seem still-willing to renounce, for
all the amnesia that has taken us.
For my siblings in lands looted; deprived of rightful resources ripped from its girth, barred from technology, or unable to speak on their own behalf for the stifling force of puppet-tyrants pulled by hidden strings leading to another power, I ask:

Welcome the lovely Tumblress of Cookies and Scream to Candy Anomaly <3
Sigh with wonder bearing witness to the prowess of her meta-lense.
Allow her to sketch a door to a less conventional cog-like world for your wide-eyed entrance.
Beam your heartlight when she patches up those rips in time made in the frustrated absence of her splendorous presence.
A round of glittering applause for the lovely Miss Terry Juku, our newest purveyor of anti-cog light, to Candy Anomaly’s Otherbox <3
Pastry Pockets for those long drifty nights in the Aether
Not much in the mood to spend hours in the ship-kitchen this evening? Do not despair.Delightfully scrumptious meals can be created easefully during those evenings of sullen mood, when preparing several sides and one main dish proves too cumbersome for spent energies. I bring to your attention, Pastry pockets. These half-moon pastries are filling, scintillating, and quite respectful of time. You can fill them will just about any veggie, garlic-sauteed bean, cheez, or etc, and even create sauces on the side for dipping when the mood strikes. Ingredients are highlit below in the instructions:
Begin by mixing 2 parts flour to 1/4 part water and 1/4 part oil until the mixture forms a nice dough consistency. When the the dough is formed to your liking, lay it out until it’s reasonably thin with a rolling pin. In a situation of lacking resources, a bottle will do. At this point you can use a large mug or goblet to cut circles into the dough. Set the circles aside and roll them thin. Fill them with your sauteed onions, mushrooms, blackbeans, cheez, bits of spinach, or other desired fillings (lightly seasoned and boiled tomato sauce can make a lovely red sauce, as can melted cheez, or other for dipping) . When they are filled ( take care to avoid over-filling them) fold the circles into half-moons with a fork pressed at the edges of the pastry, creating binding hashmarks to close them. When you’re sure the half moons are securely closed (you may have to fold over the edges and then press the fork to the edges for extra measure), you are ready to cook them.
If you wish to bake your pastries set your oven to 350. If you wish to fry you can do so in low oil, or deep fry in 4-5 cups of oil (for about 2-3 minutes each on medium heat).
The results are stupendous! These lovely stuffed half-moons have been known to lift the heavy moods of shipmates when adventures have taken a dismal turn.
Pastry pockets are well complemented by iced drinks!
To make your own blend 6-12 ice cubes, 2-3 cups of your desired fruit, soy or rice milk, w/ organic sugar (to desired sweetness) for drinks that will make happy all around ;D

Candy Anomaly is a PurpleMag/VioletFete satellite/magazine column) dedicated to providing relatively pg-15 content (art/tasteful relevant nudity you wouldn’t mind your little sister seeing… Post warnings for questionable content but please avoid going all the way there… in respect to the young’ns that tune in) for underepresented Modern Myth culture. What we mean by Modern Myth is Spec Fiction media creators (Flash fantasy/speculative fiction/art for underrepresented culture highly encouraged), enchanted indie artists of various mediums & DIYers, Happy herbivores (plant-lovers w/slammin’ cuisine/lifestyle offerings), under the radar heartlight with the potential to leave a strong impression ‘pon the cultural psyche. In a few words: Our candy is more flavor, less filler.
